The AMX-30 tanks were first delivered to the French Army in 1966, and modernized in 1979 to the AMX-30B2.  During the mid-1990, extra armor was added with reactive type, known as BRENUS.  These tanks was assigned to only two tank regiments, but never saw action.  The AMX-30 served on, to be retired on 2006.

Review

This is the first kit from Tiger Models that I have seen, as they are a relatively new company, and I must say I am impressed.  The kits comes with 13 sprues of tan colored plastic, a fret of photo-etched, a sprue of clear plastic, metal main barrel, metal 20mm barrel , decals, and some bits for extra details.

The molding of the plastic looks to be very well done, crisp details and little to no flash seen.  The surface detail of the parts is very well done, and should lead to a great model.  There is also some fine parts, for example the stowage basket.  Something that I have seen for the first time is the metal barrel for the main gun molded into plastic on a sprue.  The plastic being the mantlet cloth, and this treatment should make the barrel look great.

The lower hull is a three part assembly, and I would suggest care be taken with assembling, as you want to make sure it is square.  The wheels look to be well done, and the kit does include plastic individual link track, which itself looks good as well.

The kit does include clear parts for view ports and photo-etched parts for some extra details.  Most of the photo-eteched is used for vent screening.  There is also a length string to be used for the tow cable. The small decal sheet looks to be very well printed, with marking for one vehicle in NATO colors.  The paint and marking guide is colored with references to Tamiya paints.

The instructions look to be well done with 30 steps across 12 pages.  They almost remind me of Tamiya style instructions.  The steps look to be clear and well laid out, with overall construction very similar to almost every tank kit.  There are some paint callouts during construction, all referencing Tamiya paint colors.

Over all this looks to be a great kit from new comer Tiger Models.  The kit has some great moldings, good details, and looks to be a kit that will assemble good.  Modern French tanks have been a forgot model for sometime, and it is great to see these tanks becoming available.
